Northern Territory based Mothership Sportfishing charter, Cannon Charters has taken out the prestigious 2008 Brolga Northern Territory Tourism Award for the second consecutive year in the category of Adventure Tourism. The Brolga Awards recognise and encourage tourism businesses that strive for excellence in every area of their operation. The competition is open to tourism operators, industry suppliers and outstanding individuals, who prepare a submission in response to a series of questions and criteria that measure business excellence.

Winning a Brolga award is the industry's highest accolade and the recipients represent the best products and services in the Northern Territory .

The Adventure Tourism category is open to operators providing adventure tourism experiences that involve active customer participation. Cannon Charters was one of the 50 Northern Territory Tourism organisations entered in 28 categories who received their award in front of 400 key tourism individuals on Saturday the 29 November 2008 at the Darwin Convention Centre. Two representatives from Cannon Charters, Tanya Knowles and Shayne Tiplady travelled to Darwin to accept this prestigious award on behalf of the Cannon Charters team and owner, Brian Hanlon.

Cannon Charters operate luxurious Mothership sportfishing adventures out of Darwin and travel to the Tiwi Islands , the Northern Territory 's West Coast and the amazing Kimberley Region.

The MV Cannon is a 75ft Westcoaster charter vessel specialty built to charter the Northern Territory and Kimberley Region. The MV Cannon's four 4.65m Quintrex Sportfishing boats (dinghies) are fitted with 4-stroke 50HP outboards, padded marine quality seats, colour depth sounders, GPS, plotters and top quality Shimano and Loomis fishing gear. The dinghies are even lifted by Hiab onto the MV Cannon's roof during transit to shorten travel time. The MV Cannon boasts a full colour state of the art navigation system. She is powered by a MTU 820hp motor with a cruise speed of 10 knots. Two gensets provide 240 volt power and bow thrusters which make for easy manoeuvrability. The MV Cannon is fully air-conditioned and accommodates eight guests in four twin share cabins with ensuites, each with their own temperature control for individual comfort. The internal lounge quarters provide a modern leather setting with TV, Video, DVD and stereo system. The galley is stainless steel with all modern conveniences and a large walk in cool room. The huge outside entertaining area features a stainless steel BBQ, ice machine; a super sized chiller and freezer, coffee machine, instant boiling water and a separate shower and toilet. The back deck area is shaded by the hard top and has two large timber tables that each seats eight. This is ideal for escaping the midday heat for lunch and simply relaxing in the evening.

Local Bomaderry (NSW) businessman, Brian Hanlon who set up this award winning operation in 2003 is absolutely delighted to receive the industry's highest accolade for the second year in a row. Since recognising the need for a luxurious Mothership sportfishing charter in the Northern Territory , Mr Hanlon has certainly raised the industry standard and attracted corporate clientele from around the world. Mr Hanlon's, MV Cannon is fully booked for 2008 and is already 85% full for 2009.

Cannon Charters will now go onto represent the Northern Territory at the Qantas Australian Tourism Awards ceremony that will be held on Friday 27 February 2009 at the Crown Casino Melbourne. Cannon Charters will compete against other Adventure Tour Operators throughout Australia . These include; Eastsail Corporate Incentive Events and Adventure Sailing (NSW), Passions of Paradise (QLD), Surf and Sun (SA) as well as the winners from ACT, Tasmania and Western Australia Tourism Awards.
