Bathurst
Island is located 80km North of Darwin in The Arafura
Sea and is the smaller of the Tiwi Islands. It is
said that the word 'Tiwi' means people, or perhaps,
the chosen people.

Come

Visiting the Island
Bathurst
Island is home to the majority of the Tiwi Aboriginal
people. The main settlement on Bathurst Island
is Nguiu. Day trips can be arranged for travellers
to visit the Island at an additional cost as permits
are required and need to be requested prior to
departure. You can explore the Island, visit Art
Galleries as well as learn about the Tiwi people
and their unique culture.
